I know it might seem like blasphemy to say this, ( considering this is Tales of the Runner) but I really enjoy walking and hiking. I get into the "Zen Zone", if you know what I mean.
Now if I decide to walk a marathon or hike an Ultra, I'll have to worry about time cut-offs. There are a few of them that have finish line cut-offs that coincide with 50 mile or longer races.
There is always the possibility of doing a hike on my own. I've been looking at the John Wayne Pioneer trail that goes from the Washington/Idaho border to North Bend, Washington. There are some very scenic areas from Cle Elum to North Bend.
Then there is always the Spokane Centennial Trail. A paved bike/walking path the runs from Idaho to North of Spokane for anything from 37 to 60 miles.
I did find a 50k in Priest Lake, Idaho, and the RD is generous enough to have a 9 hour finish line cut-off, to accommodate all abilities.

I know Jules appreciates all the walking!!
Until next time....Mike.
The thing that would be awesome about doing something like that on your own is that you could take the time to document it with photographs as you went and see the trails in whole different way!
ReplyDeleteHa! Well you don't have to convince me! Enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteWalking is great and you actually see the beautiful views around you. We have a 50k here with a 10 hour cutoff, but it is such a hard route you can't make it by only walking. You need to run where possible. I hope to do it under 9 hours this year.
